Dress Regulations
General Attire: Students and staff are expected to dress in a manner appropriate to the environment of a school, that is, neat, clean and of no embarrassment or discomfort to other students or staff members.
· Shoes must be worn at all times. The school has a clean-shoe policy meaning students and staff are required to wear clean shoes when entering the building. Slippers may be used as indoor shoes.
· Hats, bandanas and other hat-like headgear are not to be worn in the school. Exceptions must be approved by administration.
· Crop and halter-tops, muscle shirts, tank tops with spaghetti straps and/or tube tops are not to be worn. The midriff must be covered. No belly buttons showing. Undergarments or cleavage must not be visible. Shorts, dresses and skirts of an acceptable length and style may be worn. Hemlines must be no more than 6 inches above the knee. Waistbands of pants must rest on the waist, not revealing underwear.
· Clothing, lapel buttons or other items with inappropriate slogans are unacceptable.
· Backpacks may be used to and from school, but not used through the school day as there are safety and health concerns. Arrangements to use a backpack during the school day can be made, with the permission of the Principal.
The following steps are taken when students do not comply with the dress code:
· First warning: Name is written in a logbook at the office and student must change clothing.
· Second offence: Name is written in the log book, a call home is made to make parents aware of the problem and student must change clothing. A follow-up letter is provided.
· Third and recurrent offences: Parents are called to pick up the student at school. Further disciplinary measures including out of school suspensions, may result depending on the number of times the student has defied the school rule.
